So, it does take 2 weeks...
Same as Qatar Embassy at Jalan Ampang Hilir said...

Tapi AP said it's between 1 month to 2 month. My frend who works in RAsGas said 1 month plus..

After I got visa, what should I do?

Buddy,

There are quite number of things that you need to do after this including deciding on things that you are going to immediate bring along to Doha and how you are going to bring them.

In addition, you may want to make necessary arrangement for your existing assets/ liabilities in Msia (tax, phone line, house etc).

Bila AP dah forward the visa by email, a few days after that rasanya dapat jugak e-ticket, depending on your choosen mobilisation date.

Walhal, aku mmg 100% aku dah fokus pada kerja kat Qatar.

KAlau aku dah buat PCB, masih nak kena clear gak ke?
Other than that, phone line.. Aku la ni pakai Celcom.. Sampai sana, nak terus beli prepaid yea?

Assalamualaikum,

Saya Faizal Kasmani, pelajar postgraduate dari Australian National University Canberra. Saya sedang menjalani pengajian PhD dalam bidang Politikal Islam di Centre for Arab and Islamic Study.

Post by Chian on 2011-01-20, 18:36

Dear Thekatyusha,

So sorry for late response. I was a bit tied up with office matters lately and did not login into this forum. Anyhow, regarding your queries :

1. Anything can happen. I concur with what Bro Fixcxer mentioned, resign only when your kindself have received the VISA or advice from QP/AP Recruitment. Meanwhile, I support your effort to mentally prepare in facing new environment and challenges.

2. Regarding IRB thingy, YES .... you need to get the clearance letter from IRB. Only then your existing employer would release your final pay, later. Furthermore, it is also important to notify IRB that you would be working overseas so that no repercussion in the future.

3. On CELCOM, I personally still maintain my CELCOM line with roaming service mainly for internet banking purposes. Some of my personal transations in Msia require incoming/outgoing payment through Msian bank which in return require TAC numbers. The TAC numbers can only be SMS to Msian telephone lines. In addition, it also allows friends and other Msian parties to get hold of me based on my previous dealings with them. However, whenever I received calls from unrecognized numbers, I did not immediately answer. Instead, I return the call by using my Qatar line or Skype. In short, it goes back to your situation. Nevertheless if I were to advise, just keep it at least until such time that you really think that you do not need it anymore.

Ish........... ha ha ha, ampunnnn ngomen oghang puteh lak. Apa2 pun, semoga semua persiapan berjalan lancar. Cool

Salam Bro Faizal,

Selamat berkenalan. Berkenaan soalan Tuan :

Salam,
Chian Smile

Salam,

Hi all. Nama saya Hazim. InshaAllah saya akan ke Doha to start work with Qatar Airways 13 March ni. Hopefully tak lama lepas tu dapat jumpe u all...

Just nak tanya a few questions: (sorry type in English, cuz pakai iPod penat autocorrect)

1. I found an article in Qatarliving about translating the Malaysian driving licence to English kat sini before leaving so that it's easy to get a Qatari driving licence. Tapi tu entry 2008. Is this still true? Should I follow the recommendation there.

2. Kalau Ada geng QR out there, is there anything specific that I should bring from here if I am staying in the company provided housing? Ape yang dah ada kat rumah tu? They it's fully furnished.

3. the visa and permits Katanya akan disettlekan by their HR. Is there anything i should worry about and things that I should bring?

if there's anything that I should know about pasal living in Doha (I'm especially worried about transport awal2 ni) and working with Qatar Airways, please let me know yeah. You can email me direct at hazimismail@gmail.com. Thanks Smile

SpectraGuy,

I am simply amaze with your effort. May your wish comes true in the near future, insya-Allah.

Hazim,

There's no need to translate your Msian Driving Licence. Original driving licence + copy with the application form is enough to convert the licence to a local driving licence. In addition, most of the time they insist for the applicant to have a RP (Resident Permit) first before submitting the application.

However, lately very lucky few Msians are granted to directly convert their licence. Mostly have to go through a direct test before getting their licence. There's a bit of simple trick here which may help you to facilitate your process of getting local licence. Perhaps your kindself may want to PM me or (other colleagues who are already here & obtained their driving licence) once you reach Doha. We can share in more details.

Btw, welcome aboard.

Bro Chian
Many thanks for your prompt reply.

Anyway, few days ago, I just went to Qatar Petroluem website & wanted to apply following vacancies:

a) http://www.qp.com.qa/en/homepage/Careers/Vacancies.aspx?JobCode=ICT/10/049

b) http://www.qp.com.qa/en/homepage/Careers/Vacancies.aspx?JobCode=ICT/10/047

c) http://www.qp.com.qa/en/homepage/Careers/Vacancies.aspx?JobCode=DP/08/001

But then I got the following message from their website:
Application was not submitted for the following reason: Applicant cannot apply more than 3 positions.

To my understanding, I applied few openings in Qatar Petroluem last year but I didnít get any response (e.g. shortlisted for interview). So, I guess my profile should have been purged from their candidate databases to make way for new application.

I emailed to webmaster tapi dia kata this is not an issue.

Bro Chian
Thanks for your advice. Done it already as per your advice. Harap2 Allah makbulkan my prayers utk berhijrah ke Middle East ni.

I also hope my family members & I can become better Moslem.

Kat MY, makin parah. Right in MY, dengan porn, premarital sex, booze, drugs & many more, I just hope it will not become an acceptable way of life for my children.

Doa2 kan saya sekeluarga dpt peluang ke mana2 country in Middle East for better life & opportunity to get closer to Allah.

Personally, saya rasa 'tertekan' tuh dengan QR10k/mth all-in. Kalau basic je, then + allowance rumah + transport mungkin ok. Itu pun saya imagine kalau single.

Sewa apartment yg sederhana skrg ni pun QR5k/mth. Keta kena ada. Tak de susah nak bergerak kat sini. I imagine installment dalam QR1,500/mth. Satu lagi tiket flight ... untuk single status at least return ticket 3 times/year.

Salam,

Pendapat saya, kalau nak cari pengalaman kerja luar negara & kumpul duit sedikit, rasanya cukup2 aje kalau QR10k. Sekarang nih QR10k = RM8k, so itu pun kena ambil kira utk budget saving.

Berkenaan kos hidup, kalau bujang boleh sewa bilik ajer dan kalau cari betul2 InshaAllah boleh jumpa yg murah dlm QR1.5k/mth tp maybe kurang selesa seperti shared bathroom & kitchen. Kalau nak bilik yg attached bathroom maybe QR3k/mth. Kereta pun kena budget paling kurang QR1.7k/mth (ini termasuk petrol).

Makan kalau bujang kena gak budget dlm QR1.5k/mth. Bil telepon/broadband kalau share mungkin murah sikit tp kalau pakai mobile broadband QR400/mth atau kalau pakai Blackberry QR150/mth.

So,

Bilik QR1.5k
Kereta QR1.7k
Makan QR1.5k
Tel/bb QR0.4k

total QR5.1k

So, ada balance QR4.9k utk simpanan & belanja2 lain. FYI harga tiket return flight QR2.5k ~ QR3.2k (peak period QR4k semasa cuti summer).

Disini tidak ada istilah lompat tempat kerja sbb work visa is not transferable except with your sponsor (employer) consent melalu surat Non-Objection Letter (NOC) from your employer. Bab NOC nih mmg susah lar nak dpt NOC dari your employer. So kebanyakan expats kalau nak melompat kerja ialah dgn berhijrah ke negara lain kalau dpt better offer.

Satu lagi sini apabila sudah siap work visa, x boleh nak keluar negara sesuka hati sbb sponsor kena bagi 'Exit Permit' utk setiap kali kita hendak keluar negara.. So x boleh main suka2 nak cabut balik m'sia walaupun kita ada paspot ditangan kita sbb immigration x akan bagi lepas without 'Exit Permit'.

So perkara diatas perlu ambik kira sbb byk jugak kes expats dtg sini ingatkan nak cuba lompat kerja bila dah sampai sini tp terperangkap. Bukan nak menakutkan tp nak bgtahu situasi kerja disini sbb kdg2 ada org suka plan nak cari kerja lain or nak main cabut balik ajer kalau x suka kerja sini. Semua kena ikut cara yg betul baru lar senang & selamat..

Utk Umrah, kos visa & naik bas = QR750.

Salam..
